	Details: “The Bill of Rights: Ten Amendments in Eight Motets,” set to music by Wesleyan University’s John Spencer Camp Professor of Music, Neely Bruce, will be performed on October 10 at Wesleyan University’s Crowell Concert Hall in Middletown. A combination of community choral singers, including those from Middletown-based GMChorale’s chamber ensemble, “Alchemy,” Wesleyan students, and others will join together as “Festival Harmony” to present this work, which will be accompanied by harp, string quintet, flute and oboe. “The Bill of Rights” was first debuted in Middletown in 2005 and premiered in Boston and Washington, DC in 2012. In writing the music, Prof. Bruce’s goal was to encourage young people to be more aware of the rights embraced by our Founding Fathers and the struggle to pass them on. Composed in the style of William Billings (1746-1800), it is an interesting piece, with a well-messaged compositional genesis and storied performance history throughout the region. The Center for the Study of Guns and Society at Wesleyan - the only center of its kind in the country - has engaged Prof. Bruce and his “The Bill of Rights” for a high-visibility project that includes documentary filmmaker Karyl Evans, Harvard Professor Jill Lepore and Wesleyan Professor Jennifer Tucker, who are producing a documentary and performance video of the work for CPTV and national PBS broadcasts.
