Performing: James Kennerley, Kotzschmar Festival Brass
Tuesday August 28, 2018
Details: Join James Kennerley, Portland’s Eleventh Municipal Organist, for his second concert on the mighty Kotzschmar. James is joined by brass and percussion players from the Portland Symphony Orchestra for this special concert, featuring music from the great cathedrals of France, the American silver screen, and even a medieval battleground! You’ll hear a dramatic symphony by French virtuoso organist and composer Alexandre Guilmant, and a piece by Lefébure-Wely that has been described as “circus music!” We’ll revel in new transcriptions of piano works by Claude Debussy (including the celebrated Clair de Lune) that James has crafted specifically to take advantage of the myriad of orchestral sounds of the Kotzschmar. Join us for a pre-concert talk at 6:30 PM in the Rehearsal Hall of Merrill Auditorium. Tickets available through the PortTIX box office, porttix.com, 207-842-0800.
Works by John Dunstable, Alexandre Guilmant, Louis–James–Alfred Lefébure–Wély, Claude Debussy, George Gershwin
